Our Philosophy
Aldo Leopold stated, "There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the
danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes
from a furnace."
Stewardship of the land is key to the Shepherd's Hill Farm philosophy. We strive to safeguard
the environment while preserving the Vermont landscape. Shepherd's Hill Farm uses sustainable
farming techniques such as rotational grazing and use of swale drainage systems to prevent
erosion. No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are ever used on the pastures that the sheep
graze on. This enables the ewes that live on Shepherd's Hill Farm to produce healthy lambs. The
lambs are born on the farm and live in an environment that is free of stress and chemicals.
